Blues Hostel
Spring 2024 - Studio 3032 - Integrated Studio
Integrated Studio focused on every aspect of a building, from schematic design to the finer details of systems and structure. My concept for the Blues Hostel began with the idea of bringing green space to New Orleans' busy business district near Canal Street. The design features a circular layout with a central lush courtyard, offering balconies, natural light, and a peaceful escape from the surrounding urban environment.
As I moved into design development, I refined the building’s structural, circulation, life safety, and mechanical systems. The materiality of the hostel is inspired by Brutalism, using precast reinforced concrete with a sleek blue color palette. The green facade incorporates tensile cables supporting hanging vines, with garden beds on every floor to maintain the green aesthetic throughout the building. Along with the architectural design, I studied and produced structural diagrams, load calculations, and detailed wall sections, ensuring that the building's design and systems work together.
